The Expired Power of Sacrifice
Many a preachers have used the term “obedience” in an effort to increase the amount of money that is given in an offering, but I suppose the same can be said about most any topic in the Bible. It has been perverted, distorted, watered down, and custom fit to our own selfish desires. It is really a sad trend. But, the truth of obedience and sacrifice isn’t in the giving of money or talent, it is in the beauty of a willful soul giving their all to the Father. How beautiful that is! We see, many times over, the Jesus reiterating the power of obedience and the total lack of value sacrifice brings.
Why? Why is obedience better than sacrifice? Because there is no value in the sacrifice of flesh, rather, there is favor found in the eyes of the Lord when we willfully obey and submit to His Word. Think about a marriage. Would you rather your spouse love you out of mere sacrifice, or willingly and passionately love you? Sacrifice is the requirement of the law, but Jesus became the fulfillment of that law, meaning, instead of sacrificing, He called us with the sound of love to willfully follow Him. I suppose it is the power of His love that moves us to obedience, and from a place of relational obedience to the Father, there is no sacrifice needed, because we willingly follow and obey Him.
Heavenly Father, Today I give You my heart. I long to have a deeper understanding of You, and I ask You to reveal to me understanding as I submit to Your Word. Guide my steps, cleanse my heart, I willingly come to You and seek You. Thank You for loving me, openly, willingly, and unrelenting. -Amen
But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
1 Samuel 15:22 NLT
I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.
Hosea 6:6 NLT
