The Hidden Blessing in Disappointment
The common factor, in many cases, tied to our disappointments in life is expectations. When we expect someone to treat us a certain way, or a promotion that we were counting on, or maybe even our expectations of God, we either consciously or subconsciously establish a perception of how the end result should be. When the outcome is anything less than what we perceived it would be in our minds, we are set up for disappointment. But what about heartache, loss, and repeatedly crushed dreams?
I know it is a speck in the big scheme of things, but I remember as a high school student wanting so badly to join the military. My branch of choice was the United States Marine Corps. I trained, I prepared, I did all I knew to do and I knew, just one day, I would earn my stripes and be called a United States Marine. But that dream came to a devastating crash when I was permanently disqualified. I had based my entire life plan on being in the Marine Corps, and now, I would never be able to serve. I tried every branch. Because of a medical condition, I was never allowed to join the military. But you know what? God took my crushed dreams and birthed a new dream, and day by day, moment by moment, reveals His plan and path for me. I know He is no respecter of persons, so He will do the same for you and anyone else. Today, if you are facing disappointment, a crushed spirit, or brokenheartedness, know that He is near. God is not out of business, and He is not taken by surprise at your current condition. Cry out to Him, and He will answer you.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for taking my life and my circumstances and using it for Your glory, even when it doesn’t make sense to me, and even when it is moments of disappointment. Thank You for coming to my rescue when I cry out to You and for restoring my joy! -Amen
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
