A Time to Serve, a Time to Rest
Whether it is serving in the church, for non-profits, or some other worthwhile cause, it is necessary to know when it is time to rest and break away from ministry. If time isn’t taken to break away from serving, fatigue will set in, and it is easy then to confuse a time to rest with a desire to quit. It is essential to know the difference! Our love for God and people as servant-leaders can often lead to exhaustion in our bodies, hearts, and minds, but it can also lead to frustrated families who, at some point, may feel neglected or ignored.
No matter if your position as a servant leader is in the church, as a vocational minister, or if you are giving all your time and energy to other causes outside the home, take time today and this week to break away from the busyness and enjoy a time of rest and loving on those near to you. Often we abuse the opportunity to serve in the name of love and passion for the Lord, but this is not necessary. We are called to rest and, if we love those we serve, our Lord, and those near to us in our homes, we will honor His call and take time to retreat, rest, and refresh. It’s nothing to be ashamed of or feel guilty about.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the example of hard work and a time to rest You give! Show me how to effectively manage my time so I can best honor You and take time to rest. -Amen
The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.
So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.Mark 6:30-32 NLT
