The Heart of a Warrior
Your enemy forces you to your knees, and moments before your certain death, you are permitted to make one last statement. One last plea. As you feel the tip of the sword against the back of your neck, your hands trembling in fear, but there’s something different. You begin to think about your family, your children, your spouse, those who depend on you. Those who need you. And, in that moment, you make a decision, just before your life is taken by the sword, to fight. You fight with all you have; blood, sweat, tears, and a sense of strength like you’ve never felt before. What was that one thing that saved you from becoming a lifeless body, a martyr, a corpse, to defending your own life?
Love.
Warriors exist in many fashions, whether they are law enforcement, military, or private citizens who are willing to protect the innocent. But, there are spiritual warriors. Those who are willing to fight, to pray, to endure, all in the name of love. Sure, it isn’t the headline of the day, but don’t be deceived; love is the driving force behind our willingness to battle evil, to fight against a certain death, to resist the devil and his foes. If the sword is the attacks of the enemy, and the bearer of that sword is the enemy himself, what is your response today? Are you going to submit to the penalty of sin, to give your life for nothing, or will you, in the moment of despair, refuse to be a victim and fight? This is your opportunity. There will be no other. Your chance to take your freedom paid for by Jesus Himself is available for you, but you must, and you will, fight back, because love demands it.
Heavenly Father, In my moment of vulnerability, my moment of weakness, and in the face of a sure defeat, take my hand. Stir in my heart the spirit of a warrior, not to do evil, but a warrior of righteousness, a warrior for good, a spiritual warrior. I will resist the lure of sin and pursue You this day. -Amen
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
