Who Do You Love?
February is often a time when we focus on our marriages, couples get engaged, and we turn our attention to love. For some, it is the extreme opposite. Divorce. Heartbreak. Gloomy days, depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Some step outside their marriage to seek the love they feel they are missing. For the next 28 days, I am going to be sharing a message of love, and the various types of love found in the Bible. Today, we begin with what I call brotherly love. Don’t worry if the term brotherly doesn’t fit your situation, it’s generic in this sense. The love Jesus showed us when He came and gave His life for us is the “Agape” love. It’s the love the Father has for Jesus, for us as human beings, and is not dependant on our reciprocal love.
But, Agape Love does initiate one unique aspect of our behavior that is unique to the three types of love I will focus on. One, Agape Love, while it does not require us to give anything back to receive that love, does, if we allow, affect our behavior, actions, and lives. I know you’re probably happy I didn’t jump into the mushy love stuff right off the bat. So, as we embark on what I like to call, “The Month of Love,” really focus on how you can show the Christ-like love to your fellow man; coworkers, friends, family, or strangers. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the love of God to others and, if they aren’t believers in Christ, this can surely prepare their appetite to learn more about Him. How will you love others today?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me, for keeping me, and for sending Your Son to die for me. May my life be a reflection of Your love today. Help me to be intentional in my actions of loving others, being humble and gentle, and demonstrating patience. -Amen
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:2 NLT
