The Imperfect Christian

What’s your price tag? Seriously. What would it take to bribe you away from the faith in Christ? Do you have one? Think about it. I know it is a question we shouldn’t ask, but in these times we live, we must look deep into who we are, what we believe, and why we believe it. If Jesus is our Lord, do we live like it? The way we treat others in business and personal matters, how we treat ourselves (no, that is not wrong!) and how we love those who despise us will bear the fruit of whether we are truly His or not. For the longest time, I tried to outwork the price Jesus paid for me through my “good” living.

Here’s the raw facts, my friends. There is absolutely nothing we can do to come remotely close to what Jesus did for us on Calvary. Nothing. Our lives should be lived in a way that reciprocates the love He has shown us. I cannot speak for you, but I know my “good deeds” or my efforts are all trash compared to what Jesus did for me! On days I feel less than adequate to be called His, I remember this. It is not an excuse to live some heathen lifestyle, or a pass to sin, but it is a great reminder that when we try to pay the price He already paid, we just cheapen the sacrifice He made for our lives. Don’t water down the blood of Jesus by trying to be “good enough” for Him! Just live in a way that honors the love He has shown each of us so graciously.

Heavenly Father, When I feel worthless, when I feel like I am too far from You, or when I feel like I need to be perfect to be loved by You, remind me that the price Jesus paid for me was perfect and enough. I love You, Lord, and may my life reflect a heart of gratitude for the love You have shown me! -Amen

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. Or through the faithfulness of Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
