A Call to Holiness
In preparing for a message this week, I was studying Numbers 22 and related text regarding Balaam. To keep it short, he was a “for profit” “prophet” who, according to scripture, heard from God, but used his gifts for illicit gain. Sound familiar? We’ve grown cold, lulled to sleep by the soft, seductive sermons of modern day Balaams. “You can be rich, you can be this, you can be that,” when the entire purpose of the Word was to create a line of communication between God and His people, to empower His people in this world, and to call them to a pursuit of Him, and of holiness. God’s love, by its very nature, demands an intrinsic, surgical procedure of the human soul whereby we are cleansed of the tapeworm of sin. For so long, we’ve continued a steady slide down the slippery slope of filth, and wonder why there’s continual digression in our communities. Where’s it going to stop? Who will sound the call to return to holiness?
No, we cannot earn it, but I believe we often use that excuse as a means to justify our compromise with sin. So, you say, what is sin? Sin is a few things: One, anything defined as sin by His word, and two, anything that creates a separation between you and God. Period. We’ve got to draw a line in the sand folks. We’ve got to stop being overcome by the aggressor and realize that, by His love and accepting His love, living in His love, we are bound and obligated to become aggressive in our pursuit of the Father, and aggressive in our assault against our personal sinful living. Draw the line. Read His word, no more compromise. Cut the fat, run to the Master. He’s calling you to a closer walk with Him! Will this make you filthy rich with a huge bank account, fine cars, a smokin’ body, and all your selfish, personal desires come true? Probably not! Is this a popular message? Absolutely not! But we’ve bought the Balaam bill! It’s time to return to the Father. This isn’t a popular message, but if you want to see massive change in your personal life, in your community, in the world, it begins with answering the Father’s call to holiness.
I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
