The Plunder of Our Souls

It doesn’t take a biblical scholar to see this world is full of evil, pain, and despair. This world is, by all accounts, the devil’s playground, but what is worse than that is the fact that many a man’s heart and soul have given place to his indwelling in the process. The power of sin is strong, and the allure of sin is often stronger. When we choose to allow the enemy a foot into the door of our “temple” (meaning, our hearts, our souls) we give him the keys and all access to who we are, our destiny, and our gifts. But, that’s not the end of the story.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 12:29, by way of an illustration, that the strong man can only be overcome by the stronger man. The consensus of commentaries reveal Jesus was referring to Satan as the “strong” man and He, being Jesus, is the stronger man, with the house being this world and our individual souls. The plunder of our souls does not belong to the enemy, and we know we are given all power to overcome this world because of what Jesus did on the cross and by His resurrection, therefore, we give all authority to “plunder” our souls to the Creator of our souls, and we make a choice to evict all traces of the enemy’s presence from our house. It’s time to take back what the enemy has occupied. It’s time to place the mark of Jesus on our homes, our hearts, and our cities, and lay hold to the promises of God. Jesus is the stronger man, and today, He has already overcome the defeated one, and made way for you and I to live in victory.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus. Your perfect sacrifice has made provision for me to not only have eternal life and remain with You always, but You have empowered me through Your Son and Holy Spirit to overcome this world. Thank You, Father, for total and complete victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

“For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.”
