Understanding God
In my previous career as a law enforcement officer, whether I was answering “low priority” calls or investigating a major crime, the ultimate end was writing the report regarding the case. The basic pieces every report required was to answer the following: Who? What? When? Where? How? Why? Simple enough, yes? Some were significantly easier than others. Take for example a shoplifting call where the suspect was already in custody, compared to a string of burglaries with no evidence. Mysteries did indeed abound! The mystery of the existence of God is one we find impossible to fathom. Every letter you read here is totally dependant upon His existence. Think about what was before our time. Ultimately, we are trying to solve a case that we are not equipped to solve. God is One. We are not gods, we are merely mortals. And with such, we lack the ability to comprehend who He is. Deep down, there’s something in all of us that wants to know who God is, meaning, we want to know His nature, His characteristics, His being, but we cannot fathom that He existed before existence existed, or that He was before there was ever a before.
He is the answer to the “Who? What? When? Where? How? Why?” He is the answer to what we seek. We live as broken humanity and attempt to understand God who is One; the Trinity, the Triune Godhead, three in one; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Simply stated, He lacks parts and pieces, unified as one, and in the beginning, He was. Think about that. Think about how majestic our God is, compared to all the things we face in this life. There is truly no other that can compare. Down to the very fiber of our existence, we depend solely on the existence of God. What tremendous power is in the three words, “In the beginning.” We know this world is the playground of the enemy, but we have been equipped by He who was, who is, and who is to come, to be more than overcomers, more than conquerors, and significantly more than “just” victorious. Today, you may be facing challenges that no other can begin to understand, but you need to know this: The same God who caused the Red Sea to split, the same God who breathed life into the dead Lazarus, the same God who touched the blind man, the woman with the issue of blood, and who caused the fish and bread to multiply, exists today. He does not change. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. God in His entirety, One, has given us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to abide, empower, and direct our lives. How big is your God? How powerful is your Rock? Beyond our ability to comprehend as humans.
In the end, the only way we can begin to understand God is to first know Jesus, to know His Word, and to be one with Him. God, He is our Rock!
Heavenly Father, Thank You for thinking of me “in the beginning.” Thank You for loving me, for saving me, for healing me, and for all you do, even when I am unaware. Cultivate in me a grateful heart, even though my mind cannot comprehend or understand You. I love You, and I know You really, really, love me. Today is Yours Father, may my life glorify Your great name. -Amen
“In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.”John 1:1 NLT
