A Friend Request from God

Who’s your “BFF”? You know what a “BFF” is, don’t you? Best Friends Forever. Imagine if someone you admire, someone famous, extended an invitation of friendship to you. That would be an awesome feeling. God Himself, the Creator, our merciful Savior, has done, just that! Think about it. What other religion worships a “god” who wants to be their friend? Romans 8:28 is a verse that we hear often as Christians, and it is a great verse to remember when things are not going according to plan. But did you know there is a hidden, secret message in that scripture? There are deeper meanings found all through God’s Word and the Holy Spirit will reveal these mysteries to you as you study His word!

The last phrase in Romans 8:28 “to His purpose” originates from a Greek word meaning “a setting forth, the show-bread; predetermination, purpose.”  The Show-Bread was set on a table in the Tabernacle. Its significance is found in studying the tabernacle and the purpose for all the items and layout in the tabernacle, it was an extension of friendship from God to man, an invitation to commune with God. A true friend doesn’t desire harm or calamity for their friends. They want the best for them, they want to help, and be there for them in a time of need. What comfort is found in the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who is with us always to guide us, empower us, and equip us to do the work of the Father. Today, know you aren’t serving some dead figure. You serve a mighty, powerful, and Holy God who seeks relationship with you. Will you pursue His call to commune with you? We do so through the Word of God, through prayer and worship, and that is not limited to Sunday. Walk in power today!

Heavenly Father, I would like to accept Your invitation to friendship. I give You my life, my dreams, my hopes, my deepest desires, my thoughts, and I ask You to take them and do what is pleasing and according to Your purpose for my life. -Amen

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
