Deal or No Deal?
The financially savvy folks know the difference between a waste of money and a good deal. Take for instance, trading automobiles. Think about what a bad auto trade would look like to you. Maybe taking your brand new truck in and only being offered a fraction of what it is worth in exchange for a new vehicle? Would you trade your eternal destination for temporary pleasure? What about Esau giving up his birthright for soup because he was so hungry. I’ve been hungry, but I don’t know that I have ever been “trade my birthright” hungry.
You see, I believe Esau’s actions represent a significant issue in our society. We are willing to give up things that are significantly more valuable for instant gratification. So, what’s your future worth? Is the going rate for your destiny a bowl of soup? An innocent text that leads to something more serious? Is it worth being slave to addictions? What is your future worth? This isn’t to “super-spiritualize” things, but I think we often use that buffer as a copout to bail on being obedient and pursuing God.
If you are at the table of decision and things are tough right now, what will you exchange for the promised purpose and destiny God has for you? Stay true and faithful, He will provide, let the soup stay with Jacob.
Heavenly Father, Keep me in the center of Your will, with my focus always on You, even in challenging times. Help me to see my value through Your eyes. -Amen
